ok, found myself. audiusa->myaudi->maps in the right bottom corner after you see your vehicle picture.

Full download is more than 9GB so it may take time depending on your download speed.

more details for people who never done this:

1 files on SD card should be in the root directory. You have no control to point MMI to any folder.
2. in my 2016 S6 the nav SW was 2015 edition and I updated it to 2016.
3. If I select 'update online' it couldn't find the update but updated it from the SD card.
4. I turned off car in middle of the update and it restarted and completed successfully when I started car 3 h later. Not bad, Audi!
5. It brought updates to the HUD ! more details now when i turned so I like it!

So how long did it take the file to download? I started and it's going so slow it says 20hrs. I won't even bother trying at that rate, as it will fail at some point going that slow.

Its not my link as it's 75/10 and everything else is fast.

It was slow (I have cable 60/6)...it took about 1.5 hour. I guess Audi server is that slow.
In car update actually was pretty fast, like 20 minutes. I wanted to try so I was patient and it worked for me.

I have a 2016 S6 that I took delivery of in late December. How do I tell what version of the nav software I have?

MMI Setup then Software Versions, I believe.

My 2016 came with the 2016 maps.

I bought mine in October but it had 2015 software release. Didn't drive it much but I think after update to 2016 i noticed couple new (to my eyes ) HUD indication when in navigation mode. Little things but I wish to have HUD to display much more info.....like BMW
