Questions about spare tire & AWD

When the tire sensor goes off, I *believe* the diffs go into a form of freewheeling to allow for the slip occurring even when going forward. Most AWD vehicles have this failsafe mode when the sensor is activated.
Older AWDs usually required the driver to disable the traction / stability control via the dash button. That gets rid of any mechanical or electrical devices attempting to correct for the rotational difference.

Also, shout out to Audi for being one of the few automakers still supplying cars with spare tires. Imagine "just calling AAA" and having those guys show up after 3 hours, towing your car, and not having wheels for a few days? Hell, my B7 S4 has a full size spare. Used that a *few* times to get out of some bad situations...

Subterfuse I think that guy was blowing smoke. As long as all the diameters of the tires are within 2%-3% of each other there should be no problem and no harm should come to the torsen nor any part of the awd. This is why full size spares get included with Audi cars. If driving on the spare provided for an extended period was a bad idea there would be a damage warning from the factory not to do so. This is also why many people have begun running staggered wheel setups on Audis and other awd cars. The main goal being matching tire size diameters up front versus rear. Now the only time mismatched tread pattern really becomes an issue is with snow/winter tires because snow tires perform so much better than all seasons do. Thus causing big traction differences.

Got the Pilot Super Sports yesterday, and the car is at Audi getting aligned this morning.
Like I had predicted, it's like a totally different car now. So smooth and quiet. I tested the road noise with an SPL app. On the Pirellis, fresh new asphalt, at 70 mph the noise was pushing 90 dB.
On the PSS, on I-95 (older asphalt), the noise was only 69-70 dB. In fact, the road noise was far below the wind noise.
