I was a regular customer since 2003. Large dealership near Boston. I was floored, really.

The only time I have heard of such a thing is when something strange is ordered. For example you go with a strange or custom color. They are not going to move a hot pink car if you back out of the deal.

I put $10k down on my Mercedes GL550. This was only because they made me a much better deal than any I could get anywhere in the country.

I have $1k down on my S6 right now.

Ridiculous - I would have asked him if he knew what KMA meant as I walked out the door.

I put down a $1k deposit, non refundable. Wasn't crazy about it being nonrefundable but went with it anyway. The only dealer I ever went to that said their policy was more than a nominal deposit was a Porsche dealer when I was looking at a Macan. They were looking for 10%. I thought that was nuts.

We ordered my wife's SQ5 with a $1000 deposit, refundable. I offered more, and they said no.

Same thing when we ordered the A8 NWB. $1000 down. Refundable.

Go find another dealer, and then drive your new S6 over to the jerk dealership and rub their noses in it.

Just FYI. The main reason I didn't squeal about the $10k was that they let me put it on a credit card. I am a points *****. I figured that since I was paying cash it didn't matter much if I paid some now and the bonus of the points made it "worthwhile".

They let you put 10K on a CC? I've never run into a dealer that would take more than $3K (except GM when paying with a GM CC).

As everyone has stated, 10% is very unusual. May I ask which dealer near Boston?

I ordered an S6 last week, and only put down a refundable $500 deposit. I live in Dallas-Ft. Worth.

My guy said I could back out and he'd be able to sell the car within a week.
