Default Thinking about a C7 S6

I'm currently in a 2011 B8 S4, but it's been almost 5 years, and I want something different. I'm considering a B9 S4, but that could be another year or two. So now I'm thinking about a used 2013 or 2014 S6. Problem is that they are really hard to find, and when you do find one, they are marked well past what KBB or Edmund says they are worth. Is there a better guide out there that I should be using. I don't mind paying a little extra, but I don't want to lose my shirt when I go to sell the car in 3 years. Thanks for any help

Have you looked for the 2012's? They are coming out of leases and they have an additional year of depreciation.

I'm no expert, but I don't think they made a 2012 S6...

My worry is that when the 2013's hit the auctions (off of lease), the prices may drop to where KBB and edmunds say they should be. When I price cars, I use KBB and edmunds as a guide, then do a check using 20% depreciation the first year, then 10% each year after that. If the number line up, I know I'm not getting burned too bad. If they don't line up, something else is wrong.

You might be right which means that I'm no expert. I've been checking out used A7's and noticed many more 2012's have hit the market recently. The asking prices haven't changed much yet.

Nice move. Have you driven one yet, or an A6?
It is very different from the S4. Not bad, just different. Larger size and immediacy of acceleration is somewhat reduced from the S4. As others have noted it is less "nimble"...again it's not bad for its size and when pushed it performs well...as I said just not quite the same as the S4. Definitely drive one.

Audi did produce a 2012 S6, but it was not available in the States.

OP, don't over-think it... A CPO 2013 is a pretty safe bet. Do your research and look around for a good price. I bought mine new, but I actually had to have mine shipped in from another state because there simply were none locally. So yes, they can be difficult to find, but absolutely worth it. You won't lose your shirt with a CPO. The resale value is admittedly a little low, but you can pick one up with a CPO warranty in the $50s. And honestly, resale should not be the only factor to consider when you're purchasing a vehicle... Anyhow, compare that to those of us who paid $70-80k+ new, and I think you're doing pretty well for a car that will exceed your expectations.

With them being so hard to find, I have not had an opportunity to drive one yet. I have thought about a A6, but I do not think I will be satisfied with a de-tuned S4 engine. Bigger car and less HP.. It's going to feel slower.. I'm not looking for a car that handles better than my S4, I need something bigger and more comfortable.

Funny you mention pricing in the $50's. That is where I need it to be for me to pull the trigger. Unfortunately, I'm seeing them in the 60's and that does not necessary mean CPO with a warranty. If that is what these cars bring, I need to move on, as the price point is too high. Good to know something can be had in the 50's with CPO and warranty. I'll continue my search! Honestly, if the car lost only 15k after nearly 3 years, it worth paying to have a new one.

You will not be satisfied with the A6 unless tuned. I went from a B8 S4 to a C7 A6 Nov 2013 and now find myself shopping for a C7 S6 because of the disparity in performance.

I have been considering the same thing but the S4 is tough to beat unless you need a bigger car. There are '13 S6's in the mid $50k range if you are willing to travel south (AL or FL) for it. Keep in mind the mid cycle refresh '16 models will be hitting our shores later this year.

I think they delayed the new S4's.. The new A4's are suppose to be released towards the end of of 2015 - S4 I heard would be the following year.

The 2016 refreshed S6's are expected in 2-3 months (mine is currently scheduled for a late March delivery).
