Default Question about TSB 170829

I changed my oil about 3500 miles ago and it was a PITA. Mostly the removing the Oil filter and trying to get the cap back on. I noticed this TSB 170829 in my alldata database. My question is, because this is a design flaw, would the consider fixing this for me on my 2004 Audi A8. If not, any suggestions to make it easier. Thanks

A TSB is not a recall, so any replacement would be something you would be charged for. The part number for the hose is 077117412R and the two seals you need are N90783402. If haven't done a coolant flush, probably due anyway. Make sure you use recommended coolant.

To make the job easier, jack up the passenger side of the car and remove the forward wheel well liner. Also remove the entire air box. Once the air box is out, it is super easy to remove the oil filter cap. I suggest that you buy a torque wrench and use it to torque the cap to the spec printed on it.

To make life easier, do like the dealer does and suck out the oil. There are a few videos online that show that sucking the oil out is an Audi recommended method as it is Audi that made the video. You don't have to drop the belly pans either.

I didn't mind changing oil in the D3. The D4 is a pain in the a**! Many more fasteners on the skid plate and they are much smaller than those on the D3. No way around it either as the oil filter is right by the drain plug.

Default Thanks

for all the info, looks like a fairly easy job. Next time I perform an oil change I think I will just do a coolant flush. Thanks Again for all the info

It just says that the cooling line preceding the one I posted a part number to is often in the way of reinstalling the oil filter cover, and that the solution is to replace it with the updated version. The car is very far out of warranty, so any repair is on your tab.

Ah yes. That coolant line isn't in the best of places but doesn't necessary make it impossible to change the filter. The line just needs a slight tug.
