Having strut rebuilt
by RMT. Called them today and they don't have any cores I have to send mine in. Question is do i leave the connector and rubber cover on it when I send it to them as pictured?
FYI I talked with Kirsten and holy crap she knows her stuff. I asked about the failure rate that I read about here and she started naming off other parts that sometimes were faulty that caused people to blame the rebuilt strut. It was in a nice way, not at all defensive, but I was impressed with her knowledge. It's free shipping to and from if you don't want it expedited. They have a 10% discount available now so my cost was $359.
I had my indy quote me a replacement of the strut and of course he is using a new strut but the quote was $1850.
I'll let everyone know how it turns out. Might end up doing the passenger side too. We'll see.

Love a Chevelle, can't remember if you've posted a picture of yours or not. The LS6 is a rare bird.

You might as well replace the upper control arms as long as you are at it. Once the strut mount is out, changing them is a snap.
I would have sent them both shocks to do. It is a matter of when they will fail, not if.

The upper control arms were replaced last year by the previous owner. I agree Richard replacing both would be the best route but Xmas is coming and I have to watch the budget!
Is the bolt torque specs in Bentleys? I purchased the disc but alas it only works on windows xp and I don't care for the online alternative.

Another questions related to the front suspension. I was hearing a clunking noise from the left front when I drive over a minor rough patch in the road. I'm wondering if the lower control arms could cause that noise, or if the week strut would be causing it? Or perhaps it's something else. Any insights?
