2.7T: Which is the correct O2 sensor?
I'm getting ready to replace both [upstream, S1] O2 sensors on our 2001... I probably should have replaced them at the same time I replaced the EGT sensors.

After reading that I searched various parts stores, including Amazon. Some of the part numbers in the write up & Amazon match, however Bosch, O'Reilly Auto Parts & Rock Auto give a different part number
The only conclusion I come to is maybe some of the Bosch numbers have changed in 6 years... and maybe the wire on the 16073 is longer so it will fit in all positions? (the only real difference in the sensors is the wire & connector color) Since I already ordered the 16287, I going to order the 16073 also to compare. I'd rather have both on hand then wonder what the correct # is.

- 16287: "Part number not compatible with 2001 Audi A6 Quattro"
- 16067: not sure, strange result...

There are four oxygen sensors on your 2.7T. On each side, there is one before the catalytic converter (B1S1 on the passenger side, B2S1 on the driver side). On each side, there is also one after the catalytic converter (B1S2 on the passenger side, B2S2 on the driver side.)
The sensors themselves are all the same. The difference is in the cable length and the color of the connector.
The B1S1 and B2S1 cables use a shorter cable and black connectors. The B1S2 is a longer cable with a green connector. The B2S2 is a longer cable with a brown connector.
In the past, I ordered and used Bosch 15733 Oxygen Sensor, Universal Type Fitment with great success. If you can crimp butt connectors, you can save yourself around $150 per side by reusing the cable and connector.

As georgeb944 so eloquently pointed out there are options based on how easy you want it to be. The OEM style have the correct length cables and connectors. There are lower cost options if you are willing to do a little work. Same sensor, you just have to make the cable fit by either cutting to length and putting on the connector, or by splicing the new sensor onto your old connector.
Be aware that Bosch claims you should not solder the wires. They claim it is better to use connectors. Odd to my way of thinking, but I went along as it is their business. Check their site for more info.
