Hi -

I'm a new member of this forum and a new Audi owner. So I have a 2015 A5 S-line with 16k miles and Pirelli tires at the recommended pressure. My question is regarding the "feel" of the steering. At high speeds (70 mph +) I get a feeling of the car "rolling" over the center (crown) of the highway or a seam in the concrete. It almost feals like on an old car I once had that needed new tie rods. But no issue at lower speeds and there is no play in the wheels if you literly grab them and try to move them around.
So my question is am I experiencing something that results from these wide tires or could there still be something wrong with a low milage A5 ?

Kerry, welcome aboard! What are you using for tire pressure?


How does the tread wear look? OK? If not, you may consider a full alignment at the dealer.

Ours has 23K+..no problems. In any case loose tie rods would have to be diagnosed with the wheels off the ground and the suspension compressed, like a jack stand under the suspension. I don't understand 'rolling'...

I've often found loose tie rod ends more by popping them out of the upright and actually feeling them long before the problem shows up in wobble or vibration.

Not sure if its the same feeling your talking about ?
I notice when we are on the freeway (concrete slab Not asphalt) I get that squirrely kinda feeling, once back on asphalt I don't notice it.

Like riding a motorcycle over a metal graded bridge , you get that on ice sensation feeling. Feels like the tires are gripping different angles kinda side to side pulling pushing feeling ...
On the bike anyways gives you that pucker to the seat feeling ... lol

My S5 does the same, common with wide tyres (255 on the S5)

Not sure what you mean by "rolling". You may be talking about tramlining/nibbling, which is the tendency of a tire to follow the contours of the road surface. Large wide low profile tires are more prone to this due to the stiffer sidewalls.
