Buying a b5 s4 soon and need some insight!!
I've been looking at buying my first Audi for the passed 2 years now and I've finally got the money to do so!! I just need some insight and help making my decision. Want a b5 but what's the best year to get? things to look for when looking at potential buys? Good/bad. What to stay away from blah blah blah. Thanks !!

Id look for an 01 or later. Audi revised the blocks for more strength. They have esp to help with traction. They removed the f hose. Look for L, M, T, and AA letters for the last part of the ecu part number. The badge will have no rings in the s4 badge and a single red parellelogram.

be very picky. the B5 S4 was massively produced and therefore there are lots of examples in very neglected conditions. try to get one with the most updated maintance. and make sure the timing belt job was done.

Don't worry about the model year, look more for one that has been maintained and documented, the fewer owners the better. They're all old cars now and potentially have been in the hands of several owners.
Knowing what turbo's the car has, how many miles are on them, and if they've been operated at elevated boost would be a top priority of mine. Swapping the turbo's is an involved process.
