Still having engine woes, 3.6L, help appreciated
Hey guys, I'm still having engine problems it all started with this thread:
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-...p0366-2915587/
Got my car back yesterday after replacing several parts pertaining to the cam positioning sensor but there is still an awful noise coming from the engine bay. It's hard to isolate exactly where it is coming from. I had my VCDS hooked up and am receiving no engine codes currently. I got video from up top and below the engine bay. Please listen to these videos:
Any help would be appreciated. I think my wife and I are about ready to give up on Audi...

are you talking about that ticking noise?
If so that's valves clicking. is your oil low???
You generally only hear those clicking when they are not getting enough oil to keep them quiet

This was definitely not the usual valve noise, hard to tell from the video. After my wife got home I had her rev the car a couple times to isolate where the noise was coming from...the back of the motor. It's definitely the timing chain. I had it towed to a repair shop and the Audi tech agreed. They are in the process of removing the engine from the car to get to the area. We're not sure if it's a timing chain guide, oil pump bolt failure, or something else. What we do know is, it's becoming frustratingly expensive.

Oh yes, let me share with everyone what was found... We finally got our car back last week!
So it was the timing chain making that aweful noise in the engine bay. They believe the problem occurred due to a failed timing chain tensioner and subsequent obliteration of one of the guiderails. The sound heard in the clips is the chain running over the two metal pins that held one of the guiderails in place. You can see how ground down they are in the image from the chain running over them. So due to that failure, it caused slack in the chain and chewed up all sprockets and gears it touched.
Luckily it didn't cause internal damage to the valves or pistons, having been ran with the timing slightly off due to the slack in the chain. Everything together, including labor, came to just north of $5K.

sucks, but good you got it back and working.
Did you tell them to change out that Oil Bolt while they were in there? lol. or torque it properly!
I'm still jittery about mine 140k on it, so I am hoping I have the fixed bolt.
