Default brake "hold" feature?

i am new to Audi,

on my 2015 Merc C class I am able to press hard on the brake pedal at a stop light to "hold" the car. so i can take my foot off the pedal to rest my leg a bit. the brakes let go once i tap the gas.
i like this feature.

is this something that Audi has as a feature?

thank you

It has an electronic parking brake you can engage and then just tap the accelerator to release it.

This is correct. I was used to it with my passat cc, auto hold was great.

Couldn't find it in my allroad then realized the parking brake releases when you press the accelerator, acts like auto hold.

It's standard on EU spec cars, but removed for NA. R button is next to the parking brake button. You can retrofit. I think the feature is called Auto Hold, you can search for the retrofit instructions.

Nothing is standard on EU cars, it is an option

It is called the English equivalent of start-up assistant in most European languages. But not expensive, around USD80 or so. The advantage is that it is it can be set to always on, so you don't have to engage the parking brake and save wear and tear on your finger. My recollection is that it is more gentle in release than prodding the accelerator to get the parking brake to release. Even then, useless if parallel parking on a steep hill. So I don't like it much, almost never use it, but order it so I don't have a blank switch. Just as well I didn't buy a Porsche.

Audi in Germany recommend it if you are towing something.

Great info. Wonder if the option can be special ordered for US orders?

The real auto hold I think uses all 4 brakes

Simply using the parking brake only engages the rear and you will feel the rear sink down(when you release the gas pedal) and you try to use it as auto hold.
