The Endless Topic of Roadster Sound Upgrades (kinda long)
It's that time again to revive the old topic of roadster sound upgrades. Having exhausted the search function regarding upgrading speakers and the subwoofer in the TT Roadster, I wanted to get some of your opinions in the best way to add better all-around sound. Aside from upgrading the headunit (I have the Concert system BTW) and wiring, and upgrading the highs and mid speakers, I have still reached a stalemate about upgrading the subwoofer. I've read Jeff's single sub install and his later dual-sub install. Also, people have mentioned using the small trunk space (which would have some space for a decent 12" system), but the problem of air movement and such is problematic... in that case, beats from the trunk would be muffled at best. Of course, unless you somehow ported the trunk through the old sub placement and/or the cubby.
Jeff's first single sub install seemed like a great idea but to me (and perhaps to him) seemed lacking. The dual-sub install probably was a great improvement but appears like a very intimidating interior/chassis renovation (time-consuming and somewhat labor intensive). What are your guys opinions on a ported or non-ported enclosed shallow-mount subwoofer, such as the Pioneer TS-SW1241D Premier 12" Shallow-Mount Subwoofer (linked below), perhaps placed or attached below either of the seats in the roadster cabin? Say, the sub behind (not enough space under) the passengers and the amp behind the drivers? Would that work?

Pioneer TS-SW1241D Premier 12" Shallow-Mount Subwoofer

Perhaps something like...
Kenwood KSC-SW1....fits right under your seats...they've got these at Crutchfield...but cheaper at Ebay.

I'm more than happy with the sound coming from the Bose system at mid>>>
levels but at high, the bass is not as full and the treble seems to overlap the mids.
I would not actually think of porting a sub from the trunk due to possible rattles you can get as well as the restricted amount of air going through that port. The addition of another 8" sub on top of the bottom one (I've read that same post) may be good but the bass is near to your head so it may sound uneven.
An old friend owned a Z3 and put some vibrating things that follow with the sub. It gives you that extra kick but I honestly thought it needed a stronger sub. I'm stumped so I'm leaving it the way it is for last (and that's a long time). I would think upgraded tweeters, mids and a better 8" replacement sub would be more than sufficient unless your planning on bumpin' it real loud. We do have a lot of speakers around us on roadsters and upgraded ones should sound nice.
Another option is the addition of more speakers (or possibly an 8" sub) on the left side of the driver's feet. I've seen some custom fabricated like that but have never heard how they've performed.
