I think checking the computer is standard, not a sign of trouble.

I've looked at literally hundreds of TT CarFax service descriptions over the years and I have rarely seen checking the module listed. Plus, if it was "normal" for this particular dealership to do and list it, it would be mentioned on every routine 10K service and it is not. It IS mentioned on at least one service that is not a 10K. Note also that it is not mentioned after the module was finally replaced.

If you look at the overall history, there have been at least 18 non-wear items replaced or repaired!!! That is over double what I've had in the three TTs I've owned combined and I've put 90K on two Mk 1s!! The cluster has been repaired replaced multiple times!! This car is either a lemon or abused.

The real killer is that this car has been on sale for 7 months at 2 different dealerships with no takers. This car still has major issues that are obvious to the casual driver or it would have been sold by now. My guess would be major interior finish and/or smell problems.

maintenance like a timing belt should not be an issue when looking at this cars I don't care if prior owner told me or not if I don't have the paper work its getting replaced, don't pass up a good one because of something minor, they will all have something I am 99.9% sure of it ;-(. Just figure out what you can live with and fix.
from the pictures the car looks really good, I wonder if it rides like crap.
