it also helps to release the pressure by undoing the gas cap.

Default Well done, Rich! On the Roadster, you can access the pump from the p-side cubby...

The one where the trunk release handle is.

I imagine the lack of working space (and light) makes it a good bit more difficult, though.

Very glad that it worked out!!

The primary fuel pump is located on the passenger behind the seat and behind the plastic covering that cover the speakers. You first have to remove the center speaker cover (be careful as it can break) then you will see 4 screws to remove the center plastic cover. Once that is off (there are a few clips holding it in place. Then you can remove the plastic cover that will expose your passenger side speaker and seat belt housing. there will still be a storage box in the way where the inside trunk release is. You need to remove the two screws holding that and then two plastic retainers. Pull this to the side and underneath there you will see a metal cover with 3 screws. Remove them and you will see the primary fuel pump.

thank you for the reply, i will keep this thread once my fulepump goes bad, but in the mean time i had the car checked and it ended up being the Crankshaft Engine Speed Sensor
so for anyone that has the same issue as me, check your crank shaft sensor, its an easy fix, and you can find one for under $50

Anyone know if there a version of this walkthrough that still has the photos attached? I need to do this job on my 2002 TT Quattro. There are lots of DIYs on the web, but none that I've found that show the hose fittings for the dual pumps/floats the Quattro has.

Default Link with a few of the pics

I have found this link which has just a few of the photos, though still missing most of them. HTH. I too would like to see all the photos before jumping in to the project.
