Same TQ, different HP
Greetings All,
While I have my eye on two different TTSs, I am wondering about something that I was reading. The torque on the TTS in 2009/2010 is the same as the TT in 2011 (258). Granted the horsepower is different (265/211 respectively).
So here is my question: Will I notice the difference since I won't be exploring the upper echelon of speed? Most of my driving will be city/back roads. About twice a year I'll take 400+ mile trips on the freeway. Even so, I expect to cruise around 85mph.
Let me know what you think...
Cheers,
Bull

Whoops... This is the answer.
This post happily answers my question:
Muchos Gracias!

the new valve lift tech on the 2011+ TT give you the same amount of torque ( that kick in the pants you feel, unlike horsepower, which is the surge at higher RPM's) and it will give you that torque at a much lower engine speed as well...
Color me biased, but I found the TTS to have a noticeable amount of turbo lag which manifest's in a torque peak at 2500 rpm instead of lower down (1650 rpm for the Valve Lift TT)
Everyone has different priorities when it comes to sports cars... I place a premium on lots of torque available as early as possible.
This was why I had an issue with the TTS; the larger turbo gave it more power, but it also required more time to spool up... hence more gradual surge rather than a pin-you-in-the-seat lunge.... It was fast, but it just didnt feel as fast as it was...
I test drove both vehicle as was torn between the need for more power (TTS) yet lots of down low torque(TT).
In the end I choose neither by adding a 5th cylinder to the equation.... perhaps not the cost effective way, but you only live once....
Here is a new TT S-Line Competition Package which neutralizes the TTS' advatange in the looks department:
