Just to clarify though... The parking sensors are fine, but if you have adaptive cruise control (ACC) then you will need to have that reprogrammed if you pull off or install a front license plate holder.

Sorry to bring up an old post.

I've had my 2015 A3 for a few months now and was interested in removing the front plate. My car does have ACC - if I were to remove the plate, does it need to be programmed again?

I haven't seen any other plate removal threads that mentions this.

I am looking for an answer, as well. My MK3 came with the license plate holder and I would like to move the plate to the side, but am concerned if this messes up the ACC, especially if I mount the plate using the tow hook.

None of my vehicles have ever had a front license plate. I received my first citation about a month ago in Manhattan Beach. I wasn't driving, I was parked barely out of the lines in an end spot. Got cited for parking badly and for no front license. It was basically a fix-it ticket.
