Default TTS makes a squealing noise on cold starts

Does your TTS engine make a squealing noise for about 1/2 second on cold starts? Mine does. Audi says there are a lot of pumps and things that could be the cause, and they will check it out at my initial service call. I'm concerned that it might be a bearing noise from the alternator or AC compressor, or worse, a turbo bearing. If it is a pump as Audi guessed, then others should be hearing the same noise. Anyone else hear this noise?

No such noises on mine throughout the Minnesota winter.

Try checking if all the drive belts are tight. Typically, squealing noises are commonly caused by slipping or loose belts.

I will check, but it doesn't sound like a belt. Thanks for the replies.

Default Another possibility is the cabin fan

I had a short time squeal when cold in one of my Mk 1s. I swore it was a loose belt but it was diagnosed as the cabin fan and fixed under warranty.

Age old trick I always used to quiet belt squeal/squeak is to take a 120 grit sanding disc and scuff the back of the belt a bit. Use extreme caution with this so you don't loose a digit if you do this while the vehicle is running. Likely best to do it before a new belt is installed. The ruffed edge will allow the belt to grip the pulleys better and not make noise. It also removes any build up which could cause noise as well.
