If not I'll report back, otherwise a decent wheels and snows for about the price of a set of 19" snows tires on their own.
I bought a set of Tire Rack winter wheels and tires. For the price, they looked very good and since they were getting sloshed in salt and sand, I really didn't care if they got nicked or scratched. In fact, when I traded in the MK2, the dealer didn't notice until too late, so I was able to keep my 19" rims to put on my MK3 for winter tires.

For the $$$ I think the Sparcos are a reasonable choice. My only regret was having to decide which way to go without being a bit more considered about it, in particular giving the WRGs a shot. A number of folks I know and respect swear by them. But in the end, as Gbob said, they're for crashing about in ugly weather for a few months a year and its not like the XICE is a poor choice. I will say I'm pretty happy with the decision to go 225s to get the added pothole protection. There are already a few showing up and winter hasn't even started yet.

Definitely will need pothole protection. Towards the end of Winter, there's more potholes than road surface here in NYC. It's awful.

No kidding! I remember hitting one on the CrossBronx Expwy right after the GWB. My friend said: Wow, you bottomed out!

21tesla, are those OEM Audi Wheels? Or from a.n.other? (Those are pretty sweet!)

[edit, disregard... i found it in your earlier post "DAI 36 gunmetal wheels and 225/18 tires (only X-ice) for my white car, too." at 42 offset... But i just noticed this was a TT... Did others say that these wheels would work for the large TTS brakes?]

I would love to know too if they work on the TTS. Look great for replicas. FYI, I did call DAI a few weeks ago, and they are out of stock and won't be re-stocking until Spring. They also couldn't confirm the fit for TTS.

I got a price of $1,100 delivered from Tire Rack for a set of Continental 225/50R-17 WinterContact SI tires mounted on Sport Edition SE-16 17" x 7.5" wheels. I having some health issues, so, I can't hump around tires for awhile. I lent my truck to a neighbor in trade for his swapping on the Blizzaks out of my garage attic. The dealer wanted almost $4,000 for winter tires on Audi wheels. When I told them about the Tire Rack price, he offered to buy them from Tire Tack, swap them out for $50/swap AND he will store the other tires/wheels in between. What a deal!

The Sport Edition center caps look kinda cheezy, and there are no lug nut covers, so, I swapped them for the Audi 'star' caps. They don't sit tight against the hub (~3/16" gap), but, they'll probably hold. I bought a second set on EBAY for $40 in case I loose one.

The ride is much better than my 19" stock wheels/tires. We're just getting our first significant snow, so, I'll have to see how it does.

I hadn't considered 17" but they look quite good. And very capable in snow.
