'04 S4 Instrument Illumination

'04 S4 Instrument Illumination
Just received my new cable (thanks Ross tech for such prompt service again).
I'm trying to select the illumination for my dials and needles to be constantly illuminated regardless of light activation. Had it on previous S4 and just like the white light of the needles and clocks even in daylight driving.
Vehicle in question is an '05 S4 Cab.
Anyway, changing the adaptation under channel 19 of the display module 17 is not giving the desired results.
Changing the 1st digit to the values listed on Ross tech guides works as documented except for "3" - if I code the first digit to 3 the needles illuminate but no dials - dials work fine as coding the 1st digit to 2 proves.
Now the balloon help in Vag com mentions something about dial illumination (2nd map) if coding 1st digit to 3. What is second map referring to?
Anyone come across this adaptation challenge before or has any ideas if something else interacts with this given setting?

Yeah, it's not obvious like expected. ...
On my cluster channel 19 coded 3 instead of 1, the scales and needles light up when the interior lights are ON, headlights OFF, Key OFF. Then, as soon as the key is turned ON, the scales dim out. However, I do know for sure that after starting the engine, and while driving, headlights OFF, the scales are in fact illuminated, but it is not bright illumination, it's very subtle, but is noticeable. You can shade the cluster and it is more evident that the scales and needles are ON together. I think the ambient light level sensor influences the illumination level of the scales/needles.

Needles bright though
You're right in that dials do appear to be very dimly lit - but needles at full intensity. If I set needles off and just dials - channel 19 to 2 - then the dials are bright as can be at full luminescence and are far more pleasing in sunlight conditions.
Maybe I should just ignore that needle that tells me how fast I'm going anyways.

Note though, ... You may not be able to dim the Dash as much as before at night though...
I have to test, but I have my needles lit and I cannot dim the instruments/dash past a certain point at night. I'm thinking that it is because of these settings.
