Default Anyone familiar with vag on the URS cars know if there is anything in there for the IR keys?...

<center><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3206/2769558682_8464cd20ed_b.jpg"></center><p>I have a brand new key from the dealer with brand new batteries from Rat Shack. I have read everything I can find about reprogramming the locking system for new keys and the process seems to work but I only get one beep and then nothing. The steps I took are below. I know other people have this problem with keys when they replace batteries that have been dead for some time or when they try to program in a key from another S4. I am wondering if there is any resets or info in the VAG that can help. I know there is for newer Audi locking systems.

1. Put spare key in ignition and turn on.
2. Roll down window.
3. Lock car with new IR key in the door.
4. Hit button once car beeps.(For memory 1, twice for 2...)
5. Wait at least five seconds and then hit the button and the car should unlock.

I am stuck after step 4, the car beeps and then does not unlock. If I try for memory two I still only get the one beep. So it is responding to the key. But there is something not jiving.

OH, I doubt this has any bearing but unlike my old key this one has this new fangled glass tube in it with spun wire. It is just sitting in there connected to nothing and has no wire coming out of it.

Any help...
Chris

The transponder is energised by a magnetic field from a loop around the ignition barrel outer. this gives the transponder in the key enough energy to transmit a code the system then checks this code is right.

I've heard is explained like this "it's akin to asking a question in a certain language and the answer must be the correct phrase in the correct language for it to accept the key and disable the immobiliser..

From the Bentley manual it says this;-

Programming the central locking pump with infrared key codes:-

electronic key codes are assigned to each key by the manufacturer. The central Locking pump can store the codes of upto four keys. If one key must be programmed, always program all infrared keys.

This complete procedure must be repeated to program each infrared key.

- Move the vehicle to an area not illuminated by fluorescent lights.

Programming sequence will not work properly under fluorescent lights.

switch ignition on using second key.

The next three steps must be completed within 30 seconds otherwise procedure will have to be repeated.

-Close and lock all doors with mechanical door locks.

point infrared key to be programmed at either infrared sensor and briefly press the transmitter button from one to four times.

Note: pressing the button once will program key as no. 1 pressing twice will program the key as key no. 2, and so on.

The sequence of the transmitter pulses must occur in one second intervals, and the sequence of upto four pulses must be completed within five seconds.

The anti- theft alarm will sound the horn briefly after each signal to confirm reception.

- press button ten seconds after entering the last pulse. Vehicle will unlock and programming for that infrared key will be completed.

Thanks for the info. I have tried those exact instructions and I just get one beep from the alarm and then nothing else. I can start my car with the new key. With or without the little coil installed in the key. So I think it is irrelevant in this situation. A guy at S-fest was saying that the memory can be filled and required clearing with a VAG. That is where I need help. I do not have a VAG and have no knowledge of their use. There must be something in there.

Nice Avant. Super clean, I like that.
