Basic VAG-COM questions...
After a recent trip to the dealership for an ignition coil failure and airbag warning light, I decided to finally jump in the pool and order VAG-COM.
As I haven't had hands-on experience with it yet, I'm a bit confused by a few of the basic concepts.
I've written my interpretations below; please correct me if I'm wrong:
1. Measuring blocks - Self explanatory, values/readings from whatever component is selected (by way of "groups"), for example ATF temperature...or throttle position.
2. Basic Settings - Instructing the control module and/or the component to re-learn the basic factory settings?
3. Adaptation - simply changing the way something works (eg. whether the car locks automatically while moving, or not.)
I guess the thing that I can't get my mind around is the basic settings feature. What is the relationship (and difference) between the measuring blocks and basic settings, as one can switch between the two?
Any insight would be appreciated!
Also, the 'Auto Scan' report is very similar to the VAS 5052 diagnosis log that the dealer hands me- it shows every module, fault or no-fault, right?

There's no single clear-cut explanation for what Basic Settings does -- it's highly dependent on what control module and what group.
Yes, Auto-Scan shows every module, whether a fault is present or not.
