Default Can TPMS on the Q7 be disabled by the same means as on the C6 A6?

I just picked up a set of rims for my Q7 for winter use and am debating about whether to spend the extra $$$ for TPMS sensors, live with the warning or to try to disable TPMS.

The SW and HW on address 65 seem to sport an A6 part number:
SW: 4F0 910 273 B
HW: 4F0 907 273 A

I'm curious if the method in the URL below would work the same for the Q7. (My brother has my HEX-USB cable right now so I can't test it myself). TIA<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/vag/msgs/9058.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/vag/msgs/9058.phtml</a</li></ul>

Default I would expect that to work, yes.

But I can't say that we've tried it.

Default Hi Uwe- So I got my cable back last night and tried it out. It works...sort of....

OK, first some vehicle specifics:
2007 Q7 4.2 Premium (US Spec)
Vag-Com Version 607.3-UD
Control Module Part Number: 4L0 910 468
Component and/or Version: J533__Gateway H06 0040
Original Soft Coding: F5F7FE77347A02

The long coding label file for the Q7 (4L0) shows that the TPMS controller is on Byte 1 Bit 2, not on Byte 3 Bit 0 as it is on the C6 A6. I tried recoding based on the 4L0 label file (e.g. Byte 1 Bit 2) but got the following fault code in the CAN Gateway:

01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded

TPMS was still an available option in the MMI, so I thought that the label file must have been incorrect and changed the soft coding back to the original and called it a night.

----

After I arrived at work this morning, I noticed in the MMI that the TPMS options had changed and that my normal options weren't availble. The only thing that was selectable was an option to turn on/off TPMS. It was marked as "Off" even though I had already recoded the CAN gateway to the original. I was not able to turn the TPMS back on via MMI (the "On" option did not stick) though neither the TPMS control module nor the CAN gateway had any fault codes on them.

I ended up pulling the fuse for the TPMS module and waiting ~1 minute before putting the fuse back in. After I did this, the TPMS settings in the MMI returned to normal: No "on/off" option, Option for "Storing Current Tire pressure" and and option for Changing Wheels"

----

Any ideas of exactly what happened and what steps to do (or not do) in order to get this to work? It seems like the CAN gateway doesn't like to be told to ignore the TPMS module when it (or some other module) detects its presence.

Default When the Gateway has an "Incorrectly Coded" fault,

the first thing you should do is a Gateway Installation List. That will tell you what's up. If you then see the TPMS in red and but it says: "Not Registered" then you've coded it out.

At that point you might try pulling the fuse or unplugging the module from the car's harness so nothing else can see it.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot and post an update here.

Default UPDATE --- I tried this.. but it still doesn't seem to work.

As in my OP, I coded out the TPMS and checked the Gateway Installation List. The two items listed in red were the CAN Gateway and TPMS (as expected)

19-CAN Gateway -- Status: Malfunction 0010
65-Tire Pressure -- Status: Not registered 0001

I shut down the car, pulled the fuse for TPMS and then checked the Gateway Installation List again. This time, the CAN Gateway was happy and TPMS didn't even show up. So far, so good.

Two problems, however.

1) The MMI still shows the TPMS option for "Storing Current Tire Pressures" or for "Changing Wheels" (not On/Off).

2) I started getting a flashing flat tire icon in the instrument cluster followed by the message (paraphrased) "TPMS System Malfunction" in the DIS

Reinstalling the fuse makes #2 above go away, but also makes the CAN Gateway unhappy again. I never did get the on/off option again, so I'm thinking that maybe some other module/controller needs to be 'rebooted' (don't know if that's the proper term).

Anyway, back to square one. I may just suck it up an fork over the $$ for TPMS sensors, but this TPMS business has been somewhat intrigued. Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated -- even those that tell me to stop being so cheap and to buy sensors :-)

Default Sounds like we'll have to do some digging.

If I had to guess they're making it difficult to get rid of TPMS since it's becoming a federal requirement.

You need to pull the fuse for the TPMS and then subtract 16 from the instrument cluster coding.
