Do I really need the Pro model?
I'm trying to decide if I need the Pro or Enthusiast model from Ross Tech. I will need it for use in several cars (my family has a lot of VW's and Audis) including: 2003 A6 3.0, 2005 VW Touareg V6, 2003 VW Jetta GLS 1.8T, and a 2000 VW GTI-VR6.
Most of the use will be changing convenience settings (my girlfriend can't stand how many buzzers there are on the Touareg) and diagnosing CEL's and the like. I don't do any modding so it's really not going to see anything detailed I would suspect. I'm also debating on what interface to get, the serial or USB.. does it matter? I have a spare Dell laptop running XP Home that has both serial and USB ports that I plan on using for this.. thoughts?
Thanks!

A KEY-series interface will suffice for the cars you mentioned.
But a HEX+CAN will give you much higher sample rates on the A6 3.0 and Touareg ECUs, and will be compatible with newer model cars than you currentlu have whoch require a direct-CAN connection for diagnostics.
Serial vs. USB doesn't really matter if you're using XP.
