Default The Elusive 01119 - Gear Recognition Signal (Intermittent) ABS DTC.

Just wondering if anybody ever found a solid cause as to this in the ABS controller?

I managed to find some official VAG docs online that say to check and rectify a possible fault in the gearbox controller, trouble is there is not fault there.

Noticed this fault after my tranny valve body was replaced about a year ago.

I am thinking maybe there is a shoddy line between the gearbox controller and the ABS controller, but I am unable to find a direct link in the wiring diagrams (which I am no pro at).

Is there any monitoring blocks I could watch to look for a problem?

Any input on this one is appreciated.

Could be a wiring problem between ABS and Auto Trans. Post an AutoScan for more info.

Default Auto-Scan Enclosed.

There are a tonne of faults related to the battery going dead over the winter (now have battery maintainer), cleared them all but the 01119 returned after VAG'ing a few days later.

Default Hard to find much on that code.

It usually means the ABS controller thinks there's an issue in the Tranny (see link below). But your tranny appears to be free of codes so I'm stumped.

Default As Uwe already explained the code itself usually tells that there are codes in the tranny too...

...but in your case there obviously are not so we need to look a little further. Your whole Auto-Scan contains fault codes which seem to be caused by power supply issues. It is known that such issues can also cause incorrect fault codes to be stored, which would also be underlined by all of them being intermittent.

Default Yeah, battery went dead over winter. But I had this DTC previously as well.

I'll have to check/clear it again and see what goes... maybe monitor the status of CAN communication to the module.

I am thinking flaky wiring between themodules, just that I can't figure out heads or tails what line it would be from the Bentley's Wiring Diagram.

Default Re: The Elusive 01119 - Gear Recognition Signal (Intermittent) ABS DTC.

when scanning abs and tcm the acceleration rates were different. traction control uses calculated acceleration rates derived from the transmission speed sensor and compares them with a direct measurement. A posible cause is the accelerometer under the back seat. since im too broke to buy the sensor imma live with beep beep beep

On mine 2002 A6 3.0 I have the same code showing in the ABS controller. Transmission shows no DTCs, clean. Not sure what it is, and how important it is. I suspect this may be a Gear Selector sensor, that is mounted on the transmission's gear selector lever. I heard this sensor is very sensitive, breaks frequently and causes some weird symptoms.
