Default Problem w/ starting car - pulled code 00849 from Instruments...

Vag 8DO 920 980 QX
Component B5 - Kombiinstr. VDO D 12
Code 00849 - S contact on Ign. starter switch (D) 31-10 open or short to ground - intermitent

sometimes the car won't start when turning the key, might have to try 8-10 times till it will. any help with this??

Possible that the ignition lock is defective.

sorry ^^^^^ this is a 2001 A4 !.8t AWM engine w/manual trans.

Default do you mean the ignition switch itself, where the key goes into?? or another relay?

Yep, the ignition switch itself. Check terminal S.
