Default I have (OK, had) a 1993 90.

I bought the VAG-COM for this car, but have used it on many others. For your car, most of what you will get from the ECU in terms of fault codes can be obtained by "blinking out" the codes via the check engine light. VAG-COM obviously gives you more info than a blinking light, but the light gives you enough to track down the info that VAG-COM gives you. Once you have these codes, the diagnosis is up to you; sometimes it is cut and dried, other times not so much. Where the VAG-COM comes in handy is when you have diffucult issues, need real-time feedback, or want to access other systems in the car. I highly recommend the software. I loaned my laptop the some of the techs at the local Audi dealer, and most of the more experienced techs subsequently bought VAG-COM. They have one Audi machine, and competition for the machine can be fierce.

Default Made to operate like the VAG at the dealer

... for good reason. You can use your Bentley guide and duplicate the exact tests using the same sequences your friendly local Audi tech would!

Very useful ane worth every penny!

Default seems like a good way to prevent piracy. And Micro$oft does this with their entire XP suite.

If it bothers you that much, get a HEX-COM adapter. No more registration required.

Default We now have a in intelligent "dongle" interface.

VAG-COM reads it's activation from the interface. It's full-function on any PC when used with a HEX-COM, which also gives faster initial connections and improved sample rates.

Absolutely love it. Great tool, don't know why I didn't buy it sooner.
