speaking of the quatech card, is there any way to force x1 mode...
... in windows XP? Every time I insert the card, I have to adjust the data rate clock mode in the device manager.

There's a work-around for that problem:
First, this is not a problem with VAG-COM -- it's a problem with the Quatech driver that doesn't deliver some of the "unusual" baud rates that VAG-COM asks for when set to Auto. On most PC's, this is not a problem, you simply set the card to Force X1 and you're done. Of course this is annoying if you get bitten by the other Quatech bug, which is that the card won't retain the Force X1 setting. Quatech now supposedly has a driver that fixes this. You might want to check with them.
Last year, they also gave us a driver that fixes the first problem by generating the correct baud rates even when set to Auto. You can find that a link to download that driver at the very bottom of the of our Quatech Configuration page.
