Default Is there a way to recode the ESP/ABS/EDL so that all electr aids are disabled except for ABS?

ABS controls the brake biasing and it defaults to 50/50 when faulted.

I managed to figure out how to disable ESP by pulling fuse #42 on B5 S4, but I'd also like to make sure EDL is dead too.

Orginal post on killing ESP by removing fuse #42

Default More research on defeating EDL on both MY2000 and MY2001-2

I was reading throught the bentley and found an interesting notation in the section regarding readiness codes in the brake system.

display group 4

EDL/ASR shut-off: (Only for vehicles equipped with EDL or ASR)

EDL shut-off due to excessive brake temperature: (Only for vehicles with EDL)

0 ? EDL was not shut off during the last 20x "ignition switched on and off".
1 ? EDL was shut off during the last 20x "ignition switched on and off".

Basically what this means is that we can read/confirm if EDL is disabled.

From my recollection, I had a friend who used to autoX his 2001.5 S4 and he said that he'd take his run with ESP ON and it'd turn itself off within 30 seconds of being flogged. I am wondering if the EDL faulted seeing the brakes were too hot after trying to correct his agressive driving. According to these codes, it may be possible to SHUT DOWN EDL when the sensor gets too hot.

Hmmm.....

Default And is it possible to change the limits as to what ABS thinks is "too hot"

from the bentley manual

To reduce the risk of brake overheating, EDL regulation is not permitted above a specific brake temperature. The temperature limit is defined in the ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-. The control module determines the actual brake temperature via an algorithm. If the algorithm determines that the brakes have reached a temperature below the temperature limit, the EDL system becomes effective again. Function of the vehicle brake system and ABS are not affected by intervention in this system.

Or change the limit so that EDL is disabled at 0kmh instead of 80kmh (factory default)

No clue, disabling safety features like that is obviously not documented anywhere.

Default Thanks. ESP is only a safety feature if it keeps me safe ;-)

Ironically, ESP helped me into a spin.

I have made some contacts into Bosch, we'll see where that takes me.

thanks

If ESP helped you into a spin, then without ESP you would have already been in bigger trouble

Default You have no idea what you are talking about.

If I take my foot off the brake, you'd expect the brakes to be OFF, right?

Have you ever driven a B5 S4 with ESP on the track with sticky tires, stiff suspension and a chip?
