Tired of my "dumb" interface, which "smart" interface should I upgrade too?
Upgrading SW is a royal PITA with the dumb interface. Which of the new "smart" interfaces should I upgrade too? I use VAG-COM on my 2000 S4 and 2001 GTI.

No new cars in the foreseeable future. Old Sony 166mhz laptop
1) sony pcg-707 166mhz pentium mmx (has usb port)
2) compaq presario (not sure the model, but newer than the Sony)

Does the presario match the VAG-COM USB specs?
If your PC does not have a serial port, then you should get a USB interface. USB interfaces have only one advantage over Serial interfaces: They work on PCs that don't have Serial ports. A USB interface is not faster. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find new laptops which still have serial ports, so if your PC has both Serial and USB ports, has at least a 1GHz CPU and is running Windows XP.<ul><li><a href="http://ross-tech.com/vag-com/faq_1.html#1.5">http://ross-tech.com/vag-com/faq_1.html#1.5</a</li></ul>
