1987 audi transmission issue
I have a 1987 CS Quattro that needs to have the transmission adjusted but I don't have access to the manual transmission gauge 3048 that the manual is calling for. Does anyone have one of these gauges?? Or know how to adjust the transmission without it??

Hello,
Whats wrong with it? Why do you want to take it apart. The 016 style trans never need anything below 500k miles. Change the oil that solves normally all shifting and noise problems. But you have to get GL4 spec oil. Do not use any mix like GL5 and GL4 approved. Red Line has the right stuff.

I lost 1st and 2nd gear because the doughnut in the shifter linkage had deteriorated, so I poured a new urethane doughnut and reinstalled the shifter rod. Now the transmission needs to be adjusted so that it shifts smoothly and can go into reverse. According to the manual, I need to attach the manual transmission gauge 3048 in order to align everything properly.

Now I am getting what your issue is.
Here is what you do:
- I hope you did not loose shift linkage rood at the fine tooth adjuster in the middle.
-In case this is all OK, place the shifter in neutral and shake it a view times left to right until it settles. This might be to the left or right depending how long the doughnut rot is in or out. Now turn the adjuster at the doughnut rod in either direction until the shifter is in the center position, tighten the adjuster nuts, done. No tool needed.
