Default How hard is winter on alloy wheels?

Just got a S6 and am looking for input on winter tires/wheels. Trying to decide on getting dedicated wheel/tire combo vs just tires. How much abuse will my alloy wheels take during the Iowa winter - if they are going to get really beat up I'd consider getting dedicated winter wheels. It would be marginally cheaper to have snow tires put on/off by the dealer vs me buying a dedicated wheel/tire package and doing it myself. Thoughts?

Default always better to have dedicated snow tire wheels

first you risk bead damage each time the tires are swapped.

Second - what a hassle - if you have separate wheels you can swap them out yourself for free.

Default 1 winter & they will never be the same. The salt & road gizz..

finds any seam or scratch & corrodes them quickly. You can not possibly keep them clean enough. I buy cheap aftermarket wheels & consider them disposable when the signs of too many winters show.

Default If you are going to run winter tires buy a set of winter rims to go with them

The cost/hastle of mounting and balancing a set of tires twice a year will quickly add up to more than buying a cheap set of rims for your winter tires.

The finish on the wheels can also be damaged each time tires are mounted.

Default Depends what you hit.

They are painted silver, just as your car is painted.

If you clean off salt, and dont hit stuff, its fine.

I frankly always go to dedicated winter wheels, and on my S6 they are 16s
