Default Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 Winter Tires

Hello all,

I am purchasing my first set of winter tires for my 2014 A8, and I have never gone with the Nokian brand before. I've read some great things online and also have a friend that uses them, but I was wondering if anyone here may have any experience running the Nokian brand?

Anyway, I have noticed they are a bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for, so I'm okay with that. However, any little bit you can save helps, and I've called around to many places and stumbled across a promo going on until the end of the month at Tires By Web, where you can enter CARCLUB when you checkout and receive $40 off a set of four Nokians! I am 99% sure I'm going to get the non-studded Hakkapeliitta 8's. I would have the tires in 2-3 business days too, so I'd be more than prepared for when winter eventually cracks down on us.

Going to decide for sure tonight, so any last minute feedback anyone may have on Nokian's would be awesome!

I don't know the snow/ice conditions where you live but if going non-studded I would recommend the R2. I was considering Hakka 8's w/o studs as well. I talked to Nokian Tech in VT and indy AUDI guy w/long time exp selling, servicing & ice racing AUDI's & selling Nokian tires. Also another long time Nokian dealer. They all said the R2 was a better tire for almost all conditions than a non-studded Hakka 7 or 8! They the only condition where the unstudded Hakka 8 might be better was in deep/fresh snow.Wet & Dry handling & ice braking/traction are better w/R2. Quieter as well. I live on the Eastern edge of the "lake effect" snow belt E of Syracuse. I've found the R2 to be the best snow/ice tire I've ever used. I've got two C6A6 Avant's & put WR G3's on the second one and have been amazed at how good they arein snow/ice as well. Unless you have a really brutal hill or continous ice conditions WR G3's would be adequate for most AUDI Quattros's IMHO. If you're in upstate NY I can give the name of a shop whose prices on Nokian are as low as antwhere in the country. IMHO

Best winter tire on the planet. I've had 5 sets on various cars. Better than Bridgestone or Dunlops that I have had.

Stuffinder your sources told you wrong. Studdeds don't help much in the snow, they are designed for ice surfaces. To best combat packed snow, chunky/blocky tire designs are required. For ice, the small "zig zag" ice slats in the tires (think eye lashes) are what's requried to penetrate the water barrier on ice surfaces. The Nok Hak * studs puncture through those with a proper tread design second to none.

I've been on 16 different winter tires and many good. The Nok Hak 8 studdeds are absolute king of winter road conditions "if" you encounter icy road conditions for several months at a time. Road noise is minimal, and the traction is superior to even the Nok R2's.

I have just purchased a second set of Nok Hak 8 Studded for my wife's new SQ5 and we know how amazing they are...you may have to buy a set to convince yourself....worth every single penny and more.

Just got ahold of Discount Tires and they are recommending the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 Winter Tires (already studded). They are $238 each which I did not think was too bad. I have a 235/55/19 tire

You buy the Hakkapelitta 9? I own the Hakkapelitta 8 studless and they been fantastic. My commute is up and over 10K pass with 10% grade to get to work. I put these tires to the test and they perform flawlessly.

Just got my new winter wheels and tires a couple of days ago. Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV 255/55-19 on Drag Dr77 19x8.5 wheels with an offset of +20. I am very impressed with the Nokians.
