Question about width
I have two sets of wheels, both 7.5 x 17
I've been using one set for track days only, and the other for year-round. I'm going to change that and put winter tires on the B6-style wheels, and summer tires for the rest of the time, including track days.
My question is this: The summer tires I want are available in 225 and 245, but not 235 width. A 7.5" rim seems just right for 225, but is listed as minimum for 245. Is there a huge downside to putting the wider tire on a 7.5" rim? Are there any other issues?
Thanks in advance.

based on feedback I've gotten from experienced autoXers
especially the ones who run in SCCA Stock classes in national-level competition; those guys are the ****** of wide-tire-on-skinny rim activity. when you do this, the law of diminishing returns kicks in. when you cram a wide tire like a 245 on a 7.5 rim, you do get a bit more patch width than compared to a 225, but not *all* of what the official tire size leads you to believe. that's because you are slightly changing the optimal shape of the tire to make it fit the rim. this can also lead to drivability issues in day to day driving.
bottom line, if you're not trying to extract that last fraction of a second of laptime, go with the 225.
