Starting to consider 255/40-18's for my C6
In the spring, I'll be getting new tires for the C6. It has the Continental 245/40-18's that i bought it with, right now. I'll wear them out & replace/upgrade.
I'll be getting Continental DWS-06's or Michelin AS3+'s.
I would like to go up to 255/40's, but I am concerned that 245's my be the max width for the 8" factory rims. I do have a limited budget. So, a wheel upgrade is not in the picture. Otherwise, spoked BBS style 19" would be going on.
Anyone gone up a size on the factory 18×8" rims?

Both Conti and Michelin recommend your wheel to be at least 8.5" wide for a 255/40R18. Installing on the 8" wide wheel could cause premature wear and upset the handling a little. Not really worth the extra 0.5" wider tread width (at best)
