Default UHP A/S Tires - 255 35 19 - Any reason not to get Sumitomo HTR A/S P02?

Seems like a very solid performer and easily the best value.

Anyone have personal experience w/ these? FWIW they are going on a tastefully modded 2015 A4 (Manual, Sport Plus), 235 35 19.

Thanks!

Greg

Have you looked into Continental DWS 06 UHP A/S tires? There are a couple of detailed reviews by owners on AudiWorld. Do a search for "DWS 06". You can also check on Tire Rack.

I have these in 20" version and have no complaints so far...but only have a few thousand miles on them. I can vouch for the Continental DWS, though. They're solid.

The Sumitomo HTR A/S PO2's rating in Tire Rack is quite good. I was looking at purchasing its twin, the Falken Ziex ZE950 AS over the DWS06. (Note: Falken is a subsidiary of Sumitomo. Falken is available in Canada but not Sumitomo). But, I ended up going for the DWS06 because it is my first choice and Conti is offering a rebate for a set of 4 tires. The Falken Ziex ZE950 is quite popular here in Canada.

Please note that in the survey results, the tire ranks well but everyone that is providing feedback has not had the tires for very long (the last column of the chart notes the number of miles reported, which is much lower than the other tires in the category). If you read our test results (Tire Test Results : Motion vs. Progress: Does New Equal Better in Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires?) the HTR A/S P02 leaves a little to be desired. The Kumho ECSTA 4X ends up being a little better (Kumho Ecsta 4X II) but for more money. If you are on a budget, you'll have to decide if the roughly $ 40 more per tire for the Kumho is worth it.

Yes, cost was a major factor, decided to go ahead with the Sumitomo's and so far at least, I am very pleased. They have a much better ride and are quite a bit quieter than the OEM Conti's that were on it. I haven't really pushed them but grip seems just fine, both wet and dry.
