Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Michelin Pilot Super Sport tire on Audi

Price – $250 per tire

Performance – Excellent

Lifespan – Long

Warranty – Treadlife: 6 years/30,000 miles; Uniformity: 1 year/first 2/32" of wear; Workmanship & Materials: 6 years/Free replacement first year, 2/32" or 25% of wear, then prorated until 2/32" remaining depth; Manufacturer's Road Hazard: None

Michelin’s Pilot Super Sport tires are great examples of getting what you pay for—sure, you’ll pay slightly more than the average tire out there, but you get much better performance out of it. Reviews of the tire come back saying it features excellent handling on dry roadways as well as those with wet surfaces. There’s little noise feedback from the tires, but you do get a good “feel” for them on the road. They’re also longer-lasting than most and don’t wear as quickly. A majority of Audi owners who’ve driven with these tires report they’d purchase them again.

Continental DWs

Price – $150 per tire

Performance – Good

Lifespan – Adequate

Warranty – Treadlife: 6 years/50,000 miles; Uniformity: 1 year/first 2/32" of wear; Workmanship & Materials: 6 years/free replacement first year or 2/32" of wear, then prorated until 2/32" remaining depth.

If you’re in a bit of a financial pinch, Continental’s DW tires are a safe choice. They offer adequate handling of dry road ways, a bit less so on wet surfaces though. There is some noisy feedback when driving on these tires, but the “feel” of them on the road is adequate. A little less than three-quarters of owners said they’d buy these tires again.

Dunlop SP Sport Maxx

Dunlop tire on Audi

Price – $350 per tire

Performance – Average

Lifespan – Sub-par

Warranty – Treadlife: None; Uniformity: 1 year/first 2/32" wear; Workmanship & Materials: 6 years/free replacement first year or 2/32" of wear, then prorated until 2/32" remaining depth; Manufacturer's Road Hazard: None.

Perhaps most surprising of the tires reviewed were the reports that came in on Dunlop’s highly priced SP Sport Maxx tires. Billed as high performance tires for serious drivers, this particular line fell flat in the eyes of reviewers. Most said the tires were fine on dry roadways, but suspect on wet surfaces. They were also a bit noisy (as noisy as Continental), but the biggest complaint was how fast they wear – among the fastest of most brands. As a result, those willing to buy these tires again versus those who’d prefer to go with a different brand was closer to a 50/50 split.
