A clogged air filter means restricted air going into your Audi A6 C6's engine. Read on to learn how to replace your old engine filter.
This article applies to the Audi A6 C6 (2005-2011).
The engine's air filter is a little filter that cleans and filters the air going into the Audi A6's engine. It is designed to be replaced every 25-40,000 miles. The longer you keep it, the dirtier it gets, which can cause it to get clogged, thus restricting the air going into your engine. Once your engine gets less air than it needs to, engine performance suffers, and usually manifests itself as the engine surging or choking at low RPM. Replacing the engine air filter is considered to be the easiest of the maintenance procedures. Read on to learn how to replace the air filter on your Audi A6.
Materials Needed
- Flat head screwdriver (optional)
- Air filter
Step 1 – Remove engine cover
Remove the engine cover by pulling it out. It is held in place by some clips, so expect a little resistance.
Step 2 – Remove air box cover
The air box cover is secured with two metal clamps. You can use your flat head screwdriver to pop them off, or you can use your fingers. Pop the two clamps off, which are on the engine side, then pull the intake tube back as you lift the cover off.
Step 3 – Replace air filter
The air filter just sits in the box, so remove it and install the new one in place. Close the air box cover, then secure the two clamps and install the engine cover back in place.
