Audi A3 2.0T Named to Car and Driver’s 2006 10Best List
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. Audis entry into the premium compact segment continues to collect accolades. Car and Driver magazine has just presented the 2006 A3 2.0T its 2006 10Best award, winning the Best Sport Compact category. The all-new 2006 A3 made its North American debut back in May. The A3 2.0T won this distinction by virtue of its sporty driving dynamics and robust structure. Car and Driver specifically made mention of the A3s nimble handling, strong chassis, powerful 200 hp 2.0T FSI engine, and easy-shifting six-speed manual transmission. These areas of performance are essential when developing a dedicated sports car, but the 4-door A3 2.0T was designed with these traits right from the onset. Not only is the A3 sporty and well equipped, its one of the safest vehicles on the road as well. The A3 was recently named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). All A3 models come standard with dual front and front-side airbags, Sideguard curtain airbags for both the front and rear passengers, three-point seat belts for all five passengers, active head restraints that move towards the occupant during impact to help reduce possible whiplash injuries, and a rigid structure that helps protect the occupants in the event of a crash. The A3 also has optional rear-side airbags for back seat passengers. The 2006 A3 2.0T starts at $24,740 (plus $720 destination) with a comprehensive list of standard equipment. Luxurious features such as automatic climate control, keyless entry, one-touch power windows, cruise control, electronic stabilization program, 17-inch alloy wheels, tilt and telescoping steering column, and 140-watt 10-speaker audio system with in-dash CD player are all standard 2006 A3 2.0T models are available with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox. Audi is already upping the ante with the recently introduced A3 3.2 S-line featuring a narrow-angle 3.2-liter V6 engine making 250 hp. All of this power is put to the ground through a six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox, and Audis legendary quattro® all-wheel drive. The A3 3.2 S-line has a base price of $33,980 (plus $720 destination). |
