Audi Delivers 6,800 hp to Real Madrid Stars
The best club of the century could hardly have accepted its new company cars more in keeping with its reputation: Prior to the Real Madrid players receiving the car keys from the hands of Audi Chairman of the Board of Management Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Raúl González Blanco and his 21 team colleagues completed a driver security training course on the Spanish Jarama circuit together with Audi works driver Emanuele Pirro. AUDI AG has been vehicle partner to Real Madrid since July last year. The record breaking Champions League winner has the entire Audi model range to choose from. In return, the Ingolstadt squad made a guest appearance in the legendary `Estadio Santiago Bernabéu’ and ran-off some promotion work with the 29-time Spanish Champions. The lesson with the three time Le Mans-winner Emanuele Pirro came just at the right time. In the end, all the players choose only the most sporting models: Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn handed over an impressive total of 6,800 hp to the men from Madrid. Emanuele Pirro – a very discerning football fan – has now shown the footballers exactly how to handle the cars in a safe and sporting manner. The stars of the world’s most successful football club were able to drive their cars directly from a symbolic starting grid in Jarama. Their choices were as varied as their nationalities. Luis Figo, Raúl and Ronaldo choose the absolute flag ship from Ingolstadt, the Audi A8 6.0 with 450 horse power. Other team players were a little more discreet with their request for an Audi A6 saloon. And some star strikers put all their hopes in a typically mild Spanish winter: After all they would like to cruise through the Spanish capital at least once with the roof down in their new Audi S4 Cabriolets with no less than 344 hp. Whether saloon oder convertible, petrol or diesel propulsion – the football stars’ cars have one thing in common: The permanent all-wheel drive quattro revolutionised by Audi and the new tiptronic, which combines all the advantages of manual and automatic gear shifting, are to be found in all the cars ordered.
