Default Which ECU do you have?

The lower rev limiter of the later ECUs will limit your access to the benefits of those cams.

Default flywheel is great but there will be some additional noise especially when idling...

272 cams are good too but best with stand-alone engine management as those won't come on to their power/torque till near 3,500 RPMs then you bounce of the rev-limter at an altogether-0too-short 2,700 RPMs later. If stand alone is used they'll soar right up to 7,200 RPMs before torques starts to taper off dramatically.

As-is you'll be slower off the line due to flywheel and cams, then scream-like-a-banshee for 2,700 RPM's then die abruptly and prematurely just as the cams are hitting their stride and REALLY starting to breathe.

Add stand-alone and you'll be AMAZED at what just those 2 things add. Left stock it's gonna be VERY frustrating!

Default I read this and I am prepared to deal with this...

but didn't hear anything about early or later ecus. Do the early ones have a higher rev limit? every 12v I've been in has had a 6200 redline. I probably have a later ecu as I have a higher build date.

Default Yea, I've been in a car with a lightweight flywheel..

it sorta "chatters". What stand alone do you suggest for best bang for the buck higher rev limit? All I ever hear on Audis is 034 and frankly I think they are a little too pricey =\

Default 6700 rpm limiter on earlier ECUs.

500 extra spins will help, but still wouldn't take full advantage of those cams. Plus, as Mance alluded to, you are stealing power from lower RPMs to give it to the higher RPMs with those cams - I think they will make your car slower in most situations.

It would probably be easier to go standalone than to swap for an earlier OE ECU, if that thought is creeping in.

Default It was creeping in =) (edit)

The thing is the engine I am building is AAH.. Too bad my wiring harness is for AFC.. I wonder how much different they are?

It's wierd because my power sort of "plateaus" at around 5800 and doesn't seem to get any more power after that. Did you have an early 90? If so did you have that same situation?

edit: I know the AAH has more aggressive cams and a higher compression ratio but the power output was the same. I know I would rather be able to feel more power all the way to redline than to have to short shift

Default edit: Mine is an intake modded mms200 AAH. It pulls strong to the 6700 limiter. :)

Stronger after the intake mods. I wouldn't dream of changing the cams with my current setup, but then mine are AAH cams. That plateau you are feeling is, at least partially, caused by your AFC cams. AAH cams are cheap.

In my opinion, the published power figures for these engines are rough estimates - I've driven both stock AAHs and stock AFCs, and the AAH cars have always had a feelable power advantage - but then my butt-dyno isn't very finely calibrated. YMMV.

Default In my car ATM I have an intake modded AFC..

I am using 3" silicone and the bored TB and MAF with a velocity stack. the norm I guess you could say. Still, it doesn't seem to pull all the way to redline. Maybe I am just an idiot who can't feel anything or I might have to adjust the MAF. What size o-ring do you use?

I will have to continue this later as I have to go ><
