Checking Codes without a VAG-Com
Is it possible on a '96 A4. The troubleshooting section of 12V.org describes a procedure involving a jumper and blinking CEL, but it might only be relevant to older 12V cars. My CEL came on yesterday, but I don't have a VAG-Com.

Speaking of VAG-COM
Is there a comprehensive guide to understanding VAG-COM? I was once told about lambda readings and what ranges were acceptable, etc. I've since forgetten it, and how to find it, but I'd like to learn more. I feel like I'm just barely scratching the surface with this thing.

Checked it with an OBDII reader a friend at work happened to have sitting on his desk....

I'm running an AA S3+ throttle body & velocity stack and a DIY MAF. The car has 131k miles, but I got it with 120k, so I don't know the history of the O2 sensors.

If its only one bank lean than its probably not the MAF since it controls the AF ratio for both
banks similtaneously. Forget which bank is 2 but on that side of the engine it could be a loose or fautly O2 sensor, dirty or faulty fuel injector, a vacuum leak where the IM meets the head, or a leak where the exhaust manifold hooks to the DP. Are you sure that's the only code it threw?
