Default Engine Codes.....

I took the car to Advanced Auto Parts today to get the codes checked for free... and well this is what the code ticket reads:

Vehicle Scanned
Global OBDII
Vehicle

DTC (Codes)

P0401
EGR Flow Insufficient

DTC Pending (Codes)

No Faults Detected.

Can some one help me with what this means. The guy there said my exhaust gases were going back up into the engine area? how does that even happen? Anyway does anyone have any better ideas or how to fix it?

Default Maybe the EGR passage is clogged!

Clean out the carbon and soot buildup in the passage.

The EGR valve goes rarely bad. It's an expensive part, so you don't want to replace it unless you absolutely have to to. Test it.

Default Is there a special way to clean it?

Do need a special solution or will water be fine?

Default An electric drill with a piece of flexible wire with a frayed end will work

Shove the wire into the pasage and losen all the builduo. Then suck out the debris with a vacuum cleaner.

Good luck with removing the EGR valve. I tried once and gave up. That sucker is stuck for good!

Default This should help:

The search funticon reveals a bunch of useful posts. You may want to look around further.

An old speedometer cable works well for cleaning the EGR passage.

Check <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/12v/msgs/1934.phtml"> this post</a> and the <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/12v/msgs/1935.phtml"> reply</a> to it.
