hard to replace rear o2 sensor?
If not too hard, anyone know how I could get at them and what it involves? Thanks
As the rears only monitor the cat's efficiency at combining O2 with other molecules, how would the computer know whether the sensor has gone bad unless it receives no signal? Check your electrical connections to the Sensor, maybe you just suffered damage to the cable. If not, you should just replace both rear sensors. I assume that you already replaced both front sensors sometime earlier? If not, I would inspect all those connections closely.
Good luck.
My CEL first came on a few months ago because of the o2 sensor. I've been lazy and meaning to replace the sensors, I naturally assumed that it was the front ones because they are the ones to go out first as said by everyone on the forums. But when the car failed smog test last week, the mechanic said he did a full diagnosis and he found that the rear driver's side o2 sensor needed replacement.
Would a malfunctioning rear o2 sensor even cause a CEL light? I was hoping that it was the front oens because then I could just change myself and buy the Bosch 13913 sensors for $40 a piece from Autozone. Its so funny - the mechanic said the sensors will cost $220 a piece.
I tried to change my own and ended up letting my mechanic do it cuz i didn't have a lift to get the car high enough off the ground to work under it.
