Default Thinking of doing an intake setup......

no, i'm not looking for quick easy bolt on power like so many people who buy these cars wthout knowing. I'm just looking for the best way to go about starting in. Did most of you build your intake setups or just buy a kit like LLTeck (witch I've read isn't that good so I'm not buying that). Any information or a point in the right direction would be appreciated. TIA.

Default Intake 101........................

Here is where I started:
1. S3 MAF
2. S3 Velocity Stack
3. Bored Throttle Bottle
4. Port & Polish your Intake Manifold (Ask for the Workshop files,
someone on this board has them).
5. Port & Polish your heads
You want to watch for 1PissedOff90. Mance is the man who modifies #1-3 and you can purchase them from him. Send me an email for further info.
Also, check out my picture poster.

Default Check it oouuuuuutt

Like 4AudiQ said, the MAF is a very good place to start.

Definately skip the LLtek kit, and buy some of Mance's parts.

Default The LLTek Kit doesn't do anything significant but it offers some useful parts

such as the heat shield, an actual mount for the filter that doesn't leave it dangling, and so on. And it doesn't prohibit you from attaching Mance's mods.

If money is no object get the LLTek for the heat shield and mounting bits (it also has a bracket for that boost sensor) and get a cone filter with an integrated velocity stack.

To be honest the LLTek's chief fault is that it's overpriced as crap. When I was ordering mine, they were out of the cone filters - I told them to skip it because I had one of my own - and apparently it makes up $70 of the purchase price. $70 for a cone filter? ridiculous.
