EGT sensors issue
Hey everyone,
I'm new to these forums and a relatively new Audi owner. I'm looking for what some of you experienced guys think about this. I've got a 2003 2.7t A6 6MT. I've started the modding path but just started. I've done the APR 93 octane chip and a samco 12 pc hose kit. I had been getting random misfires at wide open throttle. Since the warranty is out on this one I took it to my specialist guys. They said both my rear exhaust gas temp sensors were fried, which makes sense for the misfires. I'm not 100% sure but my concern is that the chipping is creating such high exhaust temps that it's toasting the EGT sensors. My idea is to go ahead and get a custom exhaust done with EXTREMELY high flow cats to cool the exhaust. So my question is..
Should I go ahead and replace the turbo back exhaust as a preventative measure or am I just throwing my money into the wind?
Rally's opinion was that the ecu programming would be a good bet as the problem, and i'm starting to agree with him. Any other ideas?
Your chipping isn't going to make your car blow up or run super hot or toast the EGT sensors. That's just silly. Running in boost all the time, even on stock, would cause your EGT temps to rise, so unless you leave your car in full boost all the time, you'll be fine.
As for the rest of it, get a custom exhaust to flow gas better and for sound. It won't fix (cure) any problems. Oh, and back to the misfires... why are you still reading this? Have them run the codes again. You might also need to change the spark plugs (40k mile wear item) and check the coil packs (prone to fail) or your O2 sensors (get the Zoldmans if he's still selling them.)
Understand this: chipping doesn't cause problems. It's just like using a million candlepower spotlight instead of a AA Maglite - just makes 'em easier to spot.
spark plugs are replaced, denso iridium gapped at 28 - my first thought was that the elevated boost was blowing the spark.
Plug wires tested fine
O2 sensors were tested by the shop and they said it was good. I trust them but i didn't do it myself.
just had to replace the fuel filter. I'm pretty sure i'm going overboard on this one, but tell me what you think. Clogged fuel filter overran the pump to maintain pressure resulting in a faulty pump creating lean fuel conditions at full throttle creating hot exhaust and killing the EGT's -pretty sure i shouldn't let me imagination loose on my engine
