Default So who is to blame, in your opinion....

About 9 months ago I had my 60k mile service (timing belt etc.), had the cam tensioners replaced, and went to KO4's. The car is my daily driver, but i don't really drive that much, so I have put about 2,000 miles on the car since all of the work was completed. Well, the other day I was dropping a friend off at the airport and I heard a very bad noise coming from the engine. So i had to get it towed to the perforance shop to have it looked at. It turns out on the the tensioners seized causing the t-belt to slip. We haven't gotten the head off yet, but even to get that far is going to be expensive. I really thought these guys were going to take care of me and say that would fix it no problem and no charge (b/c of the limited miles and they were the last ones in my enigne). They offered to pick up a portion of the labor, but want me to pay for all parts! Am i crazy for thinking this is crazy..please help!

Default Who purchased the parts, specifically the tensioners? You or the shop? If the shop, there should

be a warranty on those parts. Now if they installed your parts, you are SOL. If the warranty is gone based upon time, then its a decent deal for them to pick up the labor and you pay for parts. See what their policy is regarding warranty on parts. Only reason to go with parts the shop procures and installs is getting a warranty. If they aren't providing a warranty on the parts, might as well buy them yourself and have them installed.

Yeah, they might have to eat some serious $ on this job, but that is why they have insurance, etc. I thought most places gave a 12 month/12k miles warranty on parts and labor.

Yeah, they have a 6 month 12,000 mi warranty. They bought the parts and they installed them. I thought they're offer was reasonable, I just wanted an outside opinion. Thanks

Sucks that's its only 6 months. Best of luck and hopefully the damage isn't too bad.
