Engine heater for winter
I have 2002 A6 with 3,0 engine and have installed in a local shop, an electrical engine 'pre' -heater in to help on fuel consuption and engine wear during winter months.
Now it starts to get cold here and I have plugged the heater on for an 30 minutes with timer. The service engine light comes on and also as I start the car ice cold, the cooling fan comes on first for 3-4 minutes. That point engine is not hot even to the point that water temp cauge would move even a bit - barely just luke warm.
Engine 'pre' -heater works well and helps on getting interior heater heating much faster.
The shop installed the heater unit into the lower radiator hose at the engine side. Is this a wrong place for the heater unit? Have you seen thi kind issues. Is there something that need to do with ECU programming or changing the place for the heater?
Thanks for all the help.
Cheers,
Juha
