I also tried to change the controller. I bought one, took off component protection and it partially works.
When I set it to windshield it blows at face but only left and right (not center). Legs are ok. When I set it to face all the outputs are closed but fan works. In auto mode all the outputs are working but I think the car doesn't now which one is where.
I've been looking at the opened threads but did not find anything related to this problem...
I've recently adquired a second hand A4 B9 Avant with 15.000km. The car is just perfect. It does not have all features I'd like but I can live with it. However, one thing I am a bit dissapointed with is that it has the basic climate controller (the analog monozone one). It works fine but in my opinion is totally out-of-style...
I found the digital one through Internet (8W0 820 043 G) and just received it. The installation was quite straight forward and it worked fine until I turned on the car
After that the digital climate controller turned off and the off button started blinking.
It seems to me that once the system initializated it detected a non registered feature and it just disabled it. I'like to know if this feature can be enabled somehow (OBD, ...). Otherwise I'm afraid I'll have to return it.
At the moment I've reinstalled the analog climate controller...

Hi Interested to know if you managed to get this working or you had to rollback to the analog controllers?
It works fine for me. Seating heat ok, temperature ok, airco cold ok, airco max ok, window heat rear ok.
the directions face doesn’t work, so if u use the auto climate than everything on the practical is just fine for me. It warms the car and it cools the car. I just think it is a wonderfull upgrade and yes i know that not everything works fine, but the basics works ok.
the only thing you have to do is go to the audi dealer and remove component protection. The rest of it is plug and play.
So if you want the full function like left side 20dgr and ride side 18dgr en set it only on the face than you should stick to your analog.
i have been driving now for 4 months with this retrofit panel and got zero faults.
