Default 1.8T stalling problem...please help

I have vague details I am sorry, but the problem is with my mother's '99 Passat 1.8T Tiptronic, and I'm told of it from my wife, so I've got third hand information. It seems to stall on her occasionally after the initial moment of acceleration (i.e., as entering an intersection...when it's dangerous and you're exposed). I don't think the engine completely dies, but it momentarily loses power to proceed through the intersection. She's gotten the "we couldn't find anything wrong" from the less than stellar dealer she goes to. Ideas? Lose sensor, ecu, etc?<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/LCPawsig1.jpg">

Default I had something similar.

My car would lose all power but not die like you describe. It would do it for one second and the check engine light would come on. Then, after the second, everything would go back to normal. It went on like this for a week getting more frequent and then it died altogether and wouldn't start.

It turned out to be the ECU. It was a spare I got from APR with thier chip. They resoldered the chip and everything's been perfect since.

this is what happened to my 2.8 qtip, i would be driving then all of a sudden it would go into power save mode or something and eveything would go to crap, and i couldnt exceed 40 mph or so, and it would take forever to get to 40. they ended up replacing my tranny and everything was fixed.<p>_rl://zero.one nogaro blue s4@premium:bose:6cd:sport:tiptronic@bbsch:sumitomo htrzii

Default same here, explanation...

my 99.5 1.8Tqstip had the same issue. i took it to the dealer, they hooked up the computer and found a faulty coolant temperature sensor. it gave one reading of -41 deg. C and one of 62 deg. C. take it to the dealer and mention this as a possibility. what happens is the car thinks that it is FREEZING outside, so the fuel mixture goes rich, which is causing a misfire. just my $0.02 good luck!

Check the bypass valve - known to cause stalling when leaky
