2000 S4 shocks and springs on 2001 A4?

2000 S4 shocks and springs on 2001 A4?
I'm looking to upgrade the suspension on my 2001 quattro A4, but I don't have the $$$ to make top-of-the-line choices.
Would 2000 S4 shocks and springs work on an A4? I'm thinking the A4 will probably drop an inch or so front and back, is this accurate?
Any other words of advice or caution on a swap of this nature?
FYI: the S4 shocks and springs in question have around 4000 miles on them.
